Silver is easy to wear badly and easy to wear well. The difference is a handful of decisions, not natural taste.
Silver is more versatile than people give it credit for. It reads cooler than gold and suits cool undertones most naturally, but it works well across most skin tones, especially against darker or more tanned skin, where its brightness reads as contrast rather than clash. Warmer undertones can wear it just as well; it simply sits a little differently than gold would. If you're unsure, hold a piece up near your jaw in natural light; more often than not, it flatters.
Before buying more, check your watch. If it's gold, silver jewelry will visibly clash unless it's deliberate; if it's a neutral or unmarked metal, you're already set up to add silver without a second thought. This single check solves more styling mistakes than anything else on this list, since a watch is in frame in every photo and every handshake.
A chain sitting just above the collarbone reads as everyday and versatile; longer lengths that sit lower on the chest read bolder and work best without a lot of other jewelry competing for attention. Shorter chains layer more easily if you're wearing more than one. For the specific styles and how they wear, see our chain style guide and herringbone vs snake chain.
Two pieces of different textures (a flat chain with a textured bracelet, for example) read as intentional. Two pieces that are too similar in weight and style tend to blur together instead of standing out individually. If you're building toward a fuller look with multiple pieces at once, see our full guide to building a men's jewelry wardrobe for how to sequence it.

A thin chain or simple band reads fine in most office settings. Chunkier chains, statement rings, or multiple stacked pieces read more casual or evening-oriented. If you're unsure whether a piece fits your workplace, the safer default is fewer, smaller pieces rather than more.
An ill-fitting bracelet or ring undercuts an otherwise good styling choice faster than the wrong metal does. See our men's bracelet size guide before buying, especially online.
Nothing wrong with owning gold and silver pieces, just avoid wearing both at once unless it's intentional (a two-tone piece, for instance). Pick one per outfit unless you're deliberately mixing.
